Blank Profit Is More Honest Than Guessed Profit
Some numbers protect the system by refusing to appear.
If amount and currency do not come from reliable matching sources, profit should be blank instead of patched with another field.
Product interfaces dislike blank spaces. A blank looks unfinished, low quality, and likely to attract questions. In financial surfaces, however, a blank can be more professional than a plausible-looking number.
Profit is exactly that kind of surface. Supplier cost, tenant seller amount, customer buyer amount, and currency source can each belong to different layers. If the system borrows another amount or currency when one is missing, the interface becomes complete and the ledger becomes dangerous.
HotelByte’s principle should be simple: incomplete financial facts must not pretend to be complete facts. Calculate clearly when possible. Stay blank when not. An honest blank is better than an elegant mistake.
